If you can learn how to blog effectively, it will set you apart from the crowd and allow you to write your own ticket to whatever fame or wealth you desire. Literally. Yet many do not know how to blog effectively – and it is killing their bottom line.
In the next few minutes, I will show you some simple techniques to get you started in the right direction.
1. Keep Your Audience in Mind
I can write about proper cat dental care, but you probably would not be interested. Why? You are here to learn about blogging, not about cats. In other words, you are part of a demographic that has a specific need, interest, or pain.
Choosing a topic begins with keeping your readers in mind.
This also means using different types of delivery, like writing, videos, audios, infographics, or MP3s.
Write as if one member of your audience showed up at your door, sat down and asked you advice on the very topic you are writing about. What would you say to them? How would you say it?
2. Have a Great Title
This is the doorway to your blog post. Be sure it is captivating. Boring titles will be passed over every time.
3. Be Useful
If you want to learn one of the most crucial points to learn how to blog effectively, this is it. What advice can you offer in your blog post that can be used after reading the post? What unique angle can you present to your audience about the topic that they haven’t thought of?
Think of your blog post as a gift to your audience, not as a way to get traffic or make money. It changes the whole perspective of your writing, doesn’t it?
Go over your work and clean up confusing ideas, change your wording, and find places to insert extra value.
5. Call to Action
A call to action is what you ask your readers to do at the end of the article. Do you want them to sign up to your list? Do you want them to share your article? What do you want them to do? Tell them at the end of the article.
6. Market Continuously
SEO can take you so far, but you will need to tell others about your post. Send your blog post to your email list, tweet on Twitter, post on Facebook, and share on Google Plus. You can repurpose your content and turn it into a YouTube video, a podcast, a pdf or offer it as a free gift for subscribers. You can in turn take this content and share it in other forums (ex. transcribe a video and post it into an article directory).
These tips will get you started whether you are new or experienced.
The rest is up to you, the blogger. You must be consistent. You must track your results to know what is working and what isn’t. You must tweak and use what works best with your audience and your writing style.
Learning how to blog effectively is 5% inspiration and 95% perspiration.
